May 27, 2008 : 11:40 PMApril 6, 2008 : 7:15 PMRed Bull Flugtag SydneyI was one of the 50,000 people at Sydney today watching the Red Bull Flutag. It seemed bugger than Trop Fest but spread across a bigger area. Sadly I didn't get there early enough to get a good spot. This would have to be the most successful branded event ever held in Sydney hands down. The atmosphere was positive and the event was well organised (even with the larger than expected crowd.

July 1, 2007 : 10:36 PMPsyco-Grams from Liquid TVLiquid TV was the compilation show on MTV that screened here on SBS late at night. While Aeon Flux was the most popular my fav were these Dear Mum postcard clips. Someone has put them all on Youtube for your viewing pleasure. Note: These are not on the Liquid TV DVD which is a shame. I can't believe this format hasn't been ripped off yet. It's classic and so simple. I love the lazer guided French loves one. I still remember Dog Boy and The Maxx. and Winter Steele which used to scare me for some reason, I had to change the channel when this was on. I also hated mannequins too when I was young.

The new TV campaign for M&M's dark features a remake of the Adam's Family intro but in M&Ms style. Sadly you can't download/share the video and no desktops either. But with the Shrek 3 mini site I guess their attention is on that.

April 6, 2007 : 6:31 PMCustom MotorbikesIf you like bikes you havebeen spoilt for eye candy lately with the amount of custom bike shops around. American Chopper has made Orange Country Choppers household names but they aren't the only ones making sexy looking bikes. I'm not even a big nike person but I like things that look nice. Deus Ex Machina: Started by Dare Jennings of Mambo fame Deus celebrates custom motorbikes built from the humble Yamaha SR400s and TW220s. You get a different kind of cred by riding these bad boys. ie you don;t look like a twat with lots of money. You look like a real rider.
I saw the F131 Hellcat Combat bike on 20ltd and it gave me an eye boner. These guys build bikes that seem straight out of an Arnie film. I also found this really good custom bikes blog by Cyril.

April 2, 2007 : 8:33 PMRealistic CartoonsI'm finding this South Park image very weird. It reminds me of those Manga Simpsons & Futurama below from this talented artist. Matt Groaning is actually commisioning him to do these for a limited Simpsons Manga comic.

March 26, 2007 : 7:35 PMMarch 14, 2007 : 7:46 PMLED Faucet/Tap LightsI love the Think Geek newsletter. As you get stuff like this sent to yuor inbox. Sadly this will only work for USA taps. Tired of that same old monotonous water? Bored with water that doesn't look like futuristic alien mouthwash? Need to make your midnite bathroom appointments more exhilarating? Then you need to get the LED faucet light attachment from ThinkGeek. You can turn any faucet in your home into a streaming fantasia of techie-bliss in just minutes. How does it work? Just attach to the end of your faucet (universal adapters included), and when the water flows through the magic chamber, it simply turns on the LED array and illuminates the stream with soothingly powerful hues. But wait, there's more! You get to choose between two different Faucets. Blue LED - Always streams BLUE LED's

February 2, 2007 : 8:14 AMNovember 26, 2006 : 10:10 PMDarkonAfter seeing an early trailer for this movie Darkon a year ago I forgot the name of it and have been racking my brain to remember ever since. But Now it's done and will be released soon. This has been dubbed a "dorkumentary" and I think that fits well. Also I like that word. You have to see the trailer to belive the scope of these battles. The footage I saw before showed them making their costumes and how serious they are. I can't wait! Those wanting a piece of the action can visit the Darkon Wargaming Club. Bring a sewing machine!

November 11, 2006 : 5:44 PMTropfest Roughcut
I just spent the day at the Tropfest Roughcut seminar at the Seymore Theatre. This was a free event where the attendees were randomly drawn. Compared to events that I have paid for like Semi Permanent and others this was by far one of the best. They supplied breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea and the line up of speakers were excellent. Alex Weinress and Rob Carlton gave a great insight to how they made their film and what happened post the win and all the other speakers were fluid in their talks and not only educational but inspirational. One problem, which always seems to dog seminars, is the audiences’ pre occupation with technology. Whether it be their fear of, the total reliance on or envy of others technology. There's noting worse than having a great speaker waste his time explaining how to remove interlacing from a video or what frame rate to submit their entry in. Hopefully now I can muster the effort to get a Tropfest entry done.

November 9, 2006 : 10:13 PMNatherlands Cube HousesI actually saw these cube houses while on the bus tour of Netherlands. They look evern freakier from above though! We didn't get to stop and the only photos I got were blurry. If you like modern architecture then the Netherlands is your porn. It's as if they just approve everything and everyone has a good idea.

October 14, 2006 : 8:10 PMWar of the Worlds Foreign Desktops
I love this Chinese version of the War of the Worlds keyart. You can get all the other languages here.
One thing that is always the same is the Japanese always have a different version to everyone else. Even for Xmen 3 they had totally different artwork and trailers. It even had a different name; Xmen: The Final Decision. Check the Fox Japan sitefor X3 to see how different the trailer and artwork is.
When we worked on the web campaign Fantastic Four for Fox Australia we were sent the artwork files for the posters. Thankfully they left them layered and included all the other languages. I had a great time saying El Hombre Elastico. Le Femme Invisible in French sounds like you'd expect just more sexy. I don't think The Human Torch will ever visit China as signing his name in Mandarin looks to be a pain in the ass.

I guess you can call it a laptop and it's come in at $6,000! Check the Dell site for full features but a 1.3 MP camera built in, remote control, 8 speakers!?!? and it's being marketed just like an Apple. Check the site for similar layouts to the information. It has a carry handle to make lugging a 20 inch mofo around easier. Not sure if I like this machine but at least Dell is trying.

I saw this Earth Mover in a powerpoint document. This has to be the most insane man made object ever! I'd love to see one of these babies up close. It feel like War of the Worlds. You can see more photos and some links in this forum post. Insane! They said it was made by Tysennkrupp the lift manufacturer although none of those links worked.

As part of the deal of doing the site we also get a corporate box for 20 people at the Superdome. With David Hasslehoff presenting at this years awards I have a good chance of getting a handshake! Also with all the media attention he will gain I have no doubt Australia will rename October.... Hofftober to celebrate. Haven't been this excited in a while about meeting someone.

This would have been the most interesting thing I saw in Melbourne ( in my short 1 day stay) if it wasn't for the 30 or so Ravers I saw wearing huge baggy pants with smiley faces and tassels on them after a long night at the Sin Bn.
