Addicted

Working for your own business is like a drug. You become addicted. Days pass in a blur and you lose contact with your friends. Every waking moment you think about another hit and you'd do anythign to satisfy the crave.

I wouldn't sell my friends short or business partner (hey Rob) as business isnt a dangerous drug but like Rob said you start to develop a complex if you arent high

Clients become dealers who keep you regulary pumped and also help pay for your addiction.

It starts innocent enough a few days here and there normal hours. Maybe once ina while you do it on the weekends. Then its every night and spare moments on the weekend. You do an all nighter, thanks Kinkos for giving me the strength to stay up all night, and think it's the norm. The laptop becomes your drug bag thing (the ones that people have needles, spoons and stuff in) that you carry everywhere.

Unlike a drug addict your arm doesnt get tracks but you get sore fingers and strained eyes. You don't leave the house and eat around your addiction. You also lie to your friends about if you been working. Ahh nah man im just surfing the web. la de da :)

Friends try to ween you off the drug but nothing helps. You try to let people think you run a normal life but it's a shamn. You cant go a day without your hit of work.

I think i just get obsessed with things and dont want to see them fail. I left the Gold Coast in 1997 to study in Sydney when i was 17 and having no friends here found it really easy to stay up all night doing homework. Also unlike highschool the homework was fun and also i was good at it. While at highschool i was doing english assignments and Maths at college i was doing CD covers, mag layouts and logos. Having little money also helped keep the weekends free to work also. If i fucked up then my mum would have paid my student fee's for nothing. And not having loads of cash that would have been hard to justify. oh I studied in Sydney but now I work at Bunnings Warehouse.... Oh, Isle 3 for garden hoses.

Since starting a paper run in primary school there have only been two periods where i have been unemployed.

1: after I was fired from McDonalds for disobeince and before i started at Target (5 weeks)
2: the period between leaving Gold Coast and starting at Woolworths (2 weeks)

Maybe if i got more (any) poontang in highschool i'd be alot different. Oh well. Hairy chests don't really get the ladies untill you get older i guess

well thats a random rant about me. Am i the only one obsessed with working?

Whata week or so

Wow what a busy week or month. When was easter? Hey it was my birthday and I forgot.

Today I won a ticket to the Australian premier of the Matrix 2 at Fox!!!! But only 1 ticket which means i'll have no one to share my joy with and also i'll have to see the movie again with my friends no matter what. At least I can spoil it. Three cheers for entering competitions that just require you to email someone

Also it was my birthday on the 1st May. I'm 23 and still wearing the same clothes I wore in highschool. They still fit.

We (soapcreative)launched the Big Brother Desktop Alerts which was a very hectic 2.5 weeks. We had 18KG of M&M's delivered and I still have to send a share to the animator. I'm not sick form eating chocolate.

It was also easter which was nice of my mum (shit i forgot mothers day) to send me easter eggs and the LOTR books which my little sister has finished reading. The eggs all smashed and I was eating chocolate out of a post pack for a few days.

And thats about it. MY CD drive on my laptop doesnt owrk now and im too busy to be wothout it for a day or two. Ive discovered that I can make really nice chicken burgers from sotre baught patties and also that Dominos make nice pizzas as opposed to Pizza Hut and Pizza Haven.

Also i managed to go 3 weeks without fully shaving. By using my hair clippers on 0 it gives me perpetual 3 day growth. WOW interesting stuff

News

Australia winning against England is good news for Shane Warne who made a big mistake by taking drugs. Great if Ian Thorpe is using drugs too then we can just kiss our reputation in sport goodbye. I'd rather see Warne in a sex scandal again.

Also its a big week for biz as companies make there half yearly profit reports. EBIT is something im begining to understand now.

And the ever present Iraq war makes for solid news. I read that the human shield people who were to drive a bus to Bahgdad but they seem to have hit a snag by in fighting and people getting side tracked by sightseeing on the way.

I still havent received my terrorist handbook either.

Flashkit

I spoke at the Flashkit confrence on friday which was fun. Again it's very hard to judge how well you go and the fact I was told that I could talk 3 days before I had to made my preperation very slim. I wish I could have stayed aorunf for the other talks but I was busy at work.

This was only the second time I had spoken in front of a large amount of people. There was around 80 people at this one, compared to 200 or so last year. It's very hard to get a response form the crowd. Maybe it's becuase i'm a hack or something or people are just shy? Or the fact my talk was holding up lunch break.

Either way speaking for 1 hr actually goes pretty fast. I guess I'm used to teaching 3 hr classes. I think it's alot easier to talk about soemthing you have a strong opinion on and you are not trying to teach people anything to indepth. If your talk remains simple and conversation like it's alot easier.

TV Season

The christmas TV season is better than the regular ratings season.

Amazing Race, Sapronos series 3 repeat and Futurama.

Also that new show Scrubs seems pretty funny.

Some low lights include that stupid superman show on ABC and the '8 Simple Rules' pile of TV poo.

Washington Snipers

It was a big week for the news with both the Washington Snipers being caught and the Moscow siege taking place. Following the Bali Bombings and thats 2 solid weeks of news about death and destruction.

If anything the rebels in Moscow at least suceeded by highlighting the issue in Chechnya.

Bombs in Bali

What a shithouse world we live in. It seems no matter where you go you'll get shot or blown up.

Why is this bomb in Bali so much larger than the bombs in Isreal. Is it because the Palestinians don't want to hurt many people or they just want to make a statement. Or they are just bad bomb makers?

The world need s a force restart. Unplug it and start again. We are heading liek all great empires before us, into a great fall. Rome must have seemed pretty shit hot at the time and then suddenly the Dark Ages took over.

Will we have a second dark ages. Only this time radiation will make sure it lasts alot longer.

Here I am worrying if I should get the 4 LOTR DVD pack of the big ass 5 DVD pack, while people starve and people die all over the world.

On a lighter note I walked through the Botanical Gardens in Sydney yesterday and was amazed there is so much nature right next to the CBD. I walked all the way to Harrys Cafe De wheels but ordered a hotdog. next time I'll get a pie.

John Pilger @ MCA

I was able to catch the John Pilger exhibition at the MCA on Saturday.

Not only was it very thought provoking and extremly large but it was free!!!

That may explain the 100+ people checking it out. I have never seen the MCA so packed.

This prooves that Australians love to be stimulated with relevent documentry type content.

I think the commercial channels should take note and pull there finger out when it comes to programing. I read somewhere that they did a survey and found people want more documentries on TV. But the commerical channels put more on and no one watches them. Fuck the "Life a fly" and "The world around us" crap, people (the semi educated public) want to see the stuff Cutting Edge play every Tuesday. They want relevant doco's. They want views that aren't that of an American

The closest thing Australia gets to this on commercial channels is 60 minutes. But this is watered down for the old people who like their info pre chewed.

Dali Universe

There is a large Dali exhibition on at the Customs House in Circluar Quay this month. They have these really nice sculptures outside to advertise it.

The melting clock is one everyone knows but this flower women is new to me, I love the colour. She was sporting a large crutch though (the wooden kind)

For any Dali fans I doubt we'll see a bigger collection of his work in Australia for a while. Tickets are around $15 AUD so thats pretty cheap

New Office

We have moved into an office in the city and for the first time I have arrived at work on time for a week. I even arrived first 2 times.

A special event for all those that know me.

Also i met with Nathan J last night, he was in Sydney for a short trip, and then when I came back to the office to pick up my bag I set the alarm off. I spent 5 min waiting for someone with the code to ring me back. Luckily the cleaner came. Phew.

Sapronos Series 4

Lets hope free to air TV in Australia pick up the Sapranos Series 4 as quickly as they picked up The Osbournes.

Even if they repeat the third series again, it would be nice.

Someone mentioned on SBS talkback, that the only time you can see lead gay characters is on monday nights. All at the same time, 10.30 pm

Queer as Folk on SBS, Buffy on 7, And Six Feet Under on 9

Thats like having the Cosby Show, Family Matters and Fresh Prince on all at the same time.

I love Egg

I Love Egg I very original and highly polished.

I liek this alot better than Mashi Mori and Korea is pretty close to Japan when it comes to uber cute characters. I'd say that now most of the ones you see in the western world would be korean.

Teaching

I taught 2 class yesterday for nearly 5 hrs striaght at KVB, my old school.

It was interesting see what the students said they had learnt, then finding out they didn't even know the very basics. ie we learnt preloaders in flash but i don't know what a variable is.

I may not have prepared notes or a PHD in teaching, but at least i realise you start out with the easy stuff first.

I just need one of those jackets with the leather elbows to feel really cool.
