Malang by Car

I took this on two trips around Malang, Indonesia. It's just 1hr away from Surabaya which is the 2nd biggest city in Indo. It kind of gives you a good feel for what rural and surburban Indonesia is like.

Big Day Out 2008: Sydney

I spent the day on Friday following Terry around as he made his way through the Big Day Out at Sydney. Terry is the official/unofficial mascot of Cornetto Ice creams. It certainly worked better than two guys dressed up as a Cow and Squirrel :)

Big Day Out 2008: Sydney

I was filming as Brad was taking photos. Rob also filmed half the day too.

There was way to much eye candy out there on the day. Thank you summer! It also helps to have a huge guy dressed up right next to you to attract the attention of everyone.

We didn't get hassled by anyone the whole day and the vibe was really good. No fights (except for a little problem in the main stage in the Circle of Death) but that was our fault. Video of that coming soon!

There were a lot of Aussie flags and Southern Cross tattoos. Australia is becoming very patriotic and where as a few years back wearing an Aussie flag would have been considered lame. I'd say 20% of people had some form of flag motif on.

Bands I discovered in 2007

Since we went into 5th gear with Sleevage I have discovered a whole variety of new music. My Itunes in 2006 was 80% late 90's. This was my CD and music listening hey day. Highschool and then study I didn't expand my music tastes beyond this small era.

But last year I had to force myself to listen and research music I didn't like or didn't know I like. I found myself discovering bands that everyone talked about that I never paid attention to.

I also read what other people posted on Sleevage and checked out all the albums. It's been a great learning experience. I'm slowly becoming a musical nerd. I didn't know my Joy Division from my New Order and now I know the life stories of Crosby, Stills and Nash.

Listed below the bands I now have come to really like only in the last 12 months. Many of these will seem obvious but for me I never paid that much attention to popular music. Even popular indie music. Funny that many of these albums had great art and were also listed in many "Best of 2007" album lists on other sites.

The Arcade Fire:
Wow the album played in our office for a good six months and then I saw the interactive film clip and realised I quite enjoyed the whole album

Memomena:
I bought the CD purely for the cover art. I then listend and thought wholly shit this is great. You can listen a few times and not be bored

The Battles:
A sound like no other. Their album is solid and really has a good edge to it

The Go Team:
Damn that';s the band that does that song with the kids singing. I love that song. Hey the rest of the album aint bad either!

Justice:
This album rocked my nads hard.

Sigur Ros:
I just watched the DVD of their 2006 tour of Iceland and fell in love. The sound again is nothing I've hear before.... it's beautiful.

Mika:
Ok it's pretty poppy but the songs are catchy. I gave a few songs a heavy rotation.

Architecture in Helsinki:
A couple of their songs I quite like. Again I heard the name around but never knew any of their songs.

Ask me about these bands in Jan of 2006 and I wouldn't know WTF you were talking about. Now I'm a fan of all of them and look forward to what 2008 brings in the way of new music.

Soap's 5 Year Bowling Outing

I finally got around and spent an hour editing the footage I took at Soap's 5 year bowling outing. This was shot in March 2007. I forgot where the footage went and have since found it. I didn't take any footage at our other outings.

This is one time I actually shot specific footage for editing (I like 2 shots) but again my camera skills and lack of footage hindered by already terrible editing skills. Definitely need to cover more angles and choose more dramatic angles.

Here was 2006's Xmas party Go karting. The edit here is better although there is not much footage to work with.

I don't even want to think about 2006's Xmas party footage. I took heaps of the Sumo suit fights and more but I think it's best if no one see's that scary footage. All i have is this 15 second clip of Matt being flipped by Ross. I've added music to cover my annoying "Steve Urkle" laugh.

The thing about shooting video is it still requires editing and grading and unless you do it within a week of the event is a waste of time. I can't seem to grad the video how I treat photos. It just doesn't want to play ball the same way.
