November 26, 2006: November 26, 2006DarkonAfter seeing an early trailer for this movie Darkon a year ago I forgot the name of it and have been racking my brain to remember ever since. But Now it's done and will be released soon. This has been dubbed a "dorkumentary" and I think that fits well. Also I like that word. You have to see the trailer to belive the scope of these battles. The footage I saw before showed them making their costumes and how serious they are. I can't wait! Those wanting a piece of the action can visit the Darkon Wargaming Club. Bring a sewing machine! November 25, 2006: November 25, 2006XBOX360 HDWe had out XBOX 360 cable set to non HD for about a month and didnt realise!! We flicked it over yesterday as Gears of War was looking blurry and then all stood around looking alike idiots :) Gears of War is probably one of the best examples of next gen gaming there is. It just makes you want to buy an XBOX 360, a large HDTV and a massive speaker system. November 17, 2006: November 17, 2006Talking at Online Open day in PerthI did a talk on "kick ass" examples of online advertising yesterday in Perth, Western Australia at an event called Online Open Day. There were around 150 people which seemed to be mostly clients with a few agency peopel thrown in. I was in the middle of other more research based talks with lots of charts and data which made it easy to stand out. Also I was just presenting other peoples work (all examples from Bannerblog's archives) so I didn't have to do much thinking just selection. This is the second talk of this kind, the first I did for Eyeblaster at their educational day, and it went pretty well. I hope this will flow onto increase readership of Bannerblog and even if lucky a few pieces of work from the crowd on the day. While I'm no Anthony Robbins I am getitng the hang of speaking to large crowds. It'd be easier if I had to do the same talk multiple times as then you could get the timing and jokes right but sadly the industry here is too small to do repeat shows. November 11, 2006: November 11, 2006Tropfest Roughcut
I just spent the day at the Tropfest Roughcut seminar at the Seymore Theatre. This was a free event where the attendees were randomly drawn. Compared to events that I have paid for like Semi Permanent and others this was by far one of the best. They supplied breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea and the line up of speakers were excellent. Alex Weinress and Rob Carlton gave a great insight to how they made their film and what happened post the win and all the other speakers were fluid in their talks and not only educational but inspirational. One problem, which always seems to dog seminars, is the audiences’ pre occupation with technology. Whether it be their fear of, the total reliance on or envy of others technology. There's noting worse than having a great speaker waste his time explaining how to remove interlacing from a video or what frame rate to submit their entry in. Hopefully now I can muster the effort to get a Tropfest entry done. November 10, 2006: November 10, 2006HDR Photos
Image taken from Pingmag. I thought for some reason HDR photos required a HDR camera. What a dumb ass!! Now I'm going this weekend with the tripod to take some HDR shots!!! November 09, 2006: November 9, 2006Natherlands Cube HousesI actually saw these cube houses while on the bus tour of Netherlands. They look evern freakier from above though! We didn't get to stop and the only photos I got were blurry. If you like modern architecture then the Netherlands is your porn. It's as if they just approve everything and everyone has a good idea. Ashes Clashes Classic Catch
This is one of the best games we've made at Soap. It's original, addicitive and fun to play. It's also hard to master. Bogan Surf, Pingball and Date Movie Game are the only other games I feel stand up to this one and only the Date Movie game can call it self original. November 08, 2006: November 8, 2006November 07, 2006: November 7, 2006Ren and Stimpy Belly Button SongI saw this episode and couldn't get the damn song out of my head for weeks. It's a classic! If anyone has the MP3 please send me! November 05, 2006: November 5, 2006Deal Signed with EyeblasterI organised a deal with Eyeblaster to sponsor the Bannerblog site for 3 months. I initially proposed a 12 month deal but people are skeptical when it comes to paying money so we went with a 3 month trial. It's funny how companies can pay a lot of money to be part of an event (say AIMIA awards or Internet Awards) but is skeptical when it comes to a site like Bannerblog. I guess this is why salesmen earn their money. They convince people to fork over big wads of cash. And all I'm good at is convincing marketing people to like our ideas. Ive also decided to donate 25% of the money to Oxfam just as I feel its good karma and it's a worthy charity. Also I donate more to MSF right now and I feel guilty about letting Oxfam down. Now all I need is Hasbro to sponsor my Mr Potatohead Mashups and I'll be set for life. November 02, 2006: November 2, 2006Phantom: The Spud Who Walks
Ok the eyes are the worst bit but it was quite hard to get them even this good. POTATO SCREAM!
This turned out better than expected. Remi's New Chair
