January 31, 2003: January 31, 2003Photo Cd'sI now have 20 CD filled with digital photos and another 2 waiting to be organised. The first 10 had photos named, organised into relevant folders (ie city, cars, people) and were all neat and tidy. The last 10 are just named DSC08556.JPG and are in one giant folder. The only savior being I View Media Pro. Without this app I would be lost. It would have to be the best image cataloging app out there. For those using iphoto I pity you. It may be free but it's a pile of poo compared to i View. You can cataloge any image file, pdf's, movies, quark files just about any file. Its quicker, easier and better equiped than I photo and also doesnt copy all the photos to s special folder. January 28, 2003: January 28, 2003T3The Terminator3 site has to be one of the best movie sites ever made. Not really in terms of concept just in terms of knowing the target audience and having so much content on the site. Also the flash behind the site is awesome. Cookie trials, search function, user polls, user comments, user suppliued artwork all wrapped into a slick interface. I usually hate these techno panels and stuff but this is done nicely. The new Terminator skulls look weird though. Like they are the caveman version. Arnie is looking more riged than ever. I think his acting is getting worse or he is just trying to act to much like a robot. ArtWhiles the old pinballs may have been crap (before Adams Family) the artwork wasn't bad. Why not get some Pinball art on your office walls. With the lightbox would be cool as. Check it out here at . Also make a great present. Also if you are in Sydney check out the Ron Mueck show on now at MCA. The pieces are very powerful. The detail is amazing. There is also a video playing showing you how he went about makign some of the works which is great. Try to go on during the week to avoid the lines on the weekend. Oh and he's also Australian. January 27, 2003: January 27, 2003BloghumBloghum: The defining moment at which the author of a blog realises that no one reads his/her blog. Oxfam ChallengeI have decided to participate in the Oxfam Challenge and attempt the raise $4500 for Oxfam in 2 mths. In doing so I will also get a trip to China and trek through the three Gorges right before it is flooded for the new Damn project. So to raise the cash, which will be hard to do, I am trying to think of a few ways I can raise the dosh. I thought I could sell prints of some of the Happy Snaps or even sell the some of the 15 CD's of photos I have taken in the last 2 years. If anyone is interested in purchasing a photographic print form any of the Happy Snaps then let me know which one and what size. You'd be looking at less than $5 for a standard photo print. All money will go stright to the Oxfam Challenge. I can set up a paypal shop so purchases can me made with Credit Cards or direct money transfers. January 19, 2003: January 19, 2003HOTIt was so hot yesterday your eyes hurt when the wind blew on them. Everyone was hot and cranky and it just made you wish for an icecream in your underpants. We went to a 7-11 and ate the slushie in the store. To hot to venture outside again. Eventually we had to leave and made a dash for the shopping centre January 14, 2003: January 14, 2003ContractorsOne reason why you should never pay a contractor as soon as the work is done is that it's only after 10 days you will find anythign wrong that needs changing. A contractor that still wants to get paid is more likely to do the work quicker than one who hasn't recived their money. I still think 50% - 50% is the best way to work. 50% at that start and 50% within 30 days of delivery. This way the contractor knows you are serious. Has cash to keep them happy and the company still has soem control over work getting done in time and any unforseen changes. Tivo in AustraliaWhile its probably a long way off. And seeing as our population is so small it may never happen. But it seems give Tech nerds some spare time and they can do wonders These linux nerds back in 2001 reverse engineered a US Tivo box to work in australia and then used local websites to get the data for the TV programming. Spirited AwaySpiritied Away is well worth seeing int he cinema. It's an animation that really transports you into the world of the spirits. Japanese anime is different from western animation as it doesnt full explain every little detail and also deals with issues differently. The scene with the Stink blob and the bycycle is not fully explained but most people would undertand the message sent with that scene. The main character is great and the little comic relief rat and bird were very funny. This and Cowboy Beebop were highlights of my cinema experince in the last 6 mths. If only Anime got a more mainstream release here. January 13, 2003: January 13, 2003Ivory on EbayA search for Ivory Coast on Google cam up with Ivory on Ebay (a paid link) I think its sad that Ivory is still sold. January 12, 2003: January 12, 2003Truffle DNAHoraaay. No more pirate chinese truffles flooding the market. I can see a CSI episode in the making. Geo SurveyHere's a quick survey to test your Geographic knowledge. Most of the questions are about countries that have been in the new recently. And i'm not talking Kosovo recent so no worries. All late 2002 stuff Click here to do the survey and compare results with other countries It seems 25% of Americans surveyed have no idea how many people live in their own country :) January 10, 2003: January 10, 2003OSX AppsApple and others has really pulled its finger out and made some really nice software for OSX 1: Daylight is CRM app that looks very powerful and provides some great features. $149 USD 2: Keynote: Look alot better and easier to use than powerpoint. $195 AUD 3: Final Cut Express : i guess like FInal Cut Pro but cheaper and easier to use for the budding film buff. $565 AUD compared to $1995 for Pro 4: Safari: Mac new browser is promosing.
